Written by Andrea Funk | October 2019

Are you ready to have a quilt made from your T-shirts? Excellent. Here is a step-by-step check list of what you need to do to have a quilt made from your T-shirts.

Choose a Quilt Style

There are many different styles of T-shirt quilts. Don’t just settle for the first one you see – make sure you choose the one that you like most. Click here to read more about the different styles of T-shirt quilts.

Not sure which style is right for you? Here's a quiz you can take to help narrow it down.

☐ Choose a Quilt Maker

This is one of the most important decisions you will make when having a T-shirt quilt made. Do you know what you need to look for? Here is an article to read that will provide you a starting place.  10 Things to Look for in a T-shirt Quilt Maker

Should you choose a local T-shirt quilt maker or should you use a nationally renowned company? Here is an article to read that can help you make this decision. Local T-shirt Quilt Makers

☐ Choose Your T-shirts

This is also important! Ask yourself what story you want to tell with your quilt. For example, if you want to tell the story of your sorority days, you wouldn’t want to include a T-shirt from high school. It detracts from the story you are telling. Here is an article that can help: Choosing T-shirts to Put Into Your T-shirt Quilt.

Planning a T-shirt quilt?
Here are step-by-step directions for ordering your Too Cool T-shirt quilt.

☐ Mark Your T-shirts With What You Don’t Want Used

Every T-shirt quilt company or quilt maker has their own specific directions. Here at Too Cool T-shirt Quilts we want you to tell us what you don’t want used. We will use everything that is not X’d out. Here's information on how to mark your T-shirts for us.

☐ Print Out Order Form

Every T-shirt quilt company or quilt maker has their own specific directions for ordering a quilt from them. If they don’t have an order form or clear ordering directions, you may want to reconsider using them to make your quilt. An order form has so much critical data that communicates to the quilter everything from your name to what you want. Without an order form, if something is mixed up, it’s your word against their word.

Here is a link to the Too Cool T-shirt Quilts’ order form. When you click the order form, we take you to a map of the US. Simply click on the state that you live in to be directed to the correct order form.

☐ Choose Your Backing & Binding Material Colors

This is a question that should be on the order form. It is on the Too Cool order form. Because it is so important, we have written a in depth article about choosing backing colors. Click here to read this article.

☐ Box Up T-shirt & Ship

This might sound easy enough – but…. You want to take the time to do it right.

There is nothing worse for us than to get a box with a gaping hole in its’ side. Here is an article with some ideas about packing your T-shirts – from box selection to shipping. How to Package your T-shirt to Ship

☐ Sit Back and Let Your Quilt Maker Work

After you ship out your T-shirts, you need to be on the look out for an e-mail from your quilter telling you that they have received your box.

Here at Too Cool T-shirt Quilts our goal is to get back to you within 2 business days to tell you that we have received your T-shirts. Be sure to check your junk e-mail if you have not heard back from your quilter. And if you are worried, by all means, call your quilter! Here at Too Cool T-shirt Quilts we are more than happy to let you know the status of your quilt.

After you know your T-shirts have arrived and you have approved the final size, then you can sit back and wait. Here at Too Cool T-shirt Quilts our goal is to have your quilt back in 6 weeks or less after your approval. Again, if you are worried, call for a status update.

Receive Your Quilt Back

Getting your quilt back is so much fun. How do you know if you have a great quilt? Well first, you will be showing everyone. And second, when someone wants your quilt. “Hey, if you don’t want it, I’ll take it.”

If someone wants your quilt even though it is made with your T-shirts, that’s a sure sign of a great T-shirt quilt.
